Klondike

On the ground, Klondike is friendly and easy to love, especially if you’re a woman!  He’ll catch YOU in the pasture, and sometimes needs a reminder that not everyone wants a big ol’ mule in their lap. Our hunch is that he’s been looking for “HIS PERSON” for a while, and is turning on the charm, hoping to find them soon.   He’s easy to groom and tack, great for the farrier, loves attention, and generally has more “whoa” than “go.”  If anything ever surprises him (very rarely), he freezes and has a good look, then he’s good to go forward. This is a GREAT personality trait for a mule that’s meant for the novice or nervous!  He’s well versed in farm and trail life, so all the dogs, cows, deer, turkeys, tractors, ATV’s, delivery vehicles and the other usual suspects are just no big deal. Mules like him have a head full of sense and lots of life experience.

Now, just because he’s quiet and doesn’t get bent out of shape over silly stuff does NOT mean he’s pokey or lazy!  If all you want to do is stroll down the trail at a slow, smooth flat walk, that’s fine, but he also has other gears, too!  You’ll enjoy his really nice scope of smooth, reachy running walk and it’s deceptively smooth transition to rack… and every inch of it, at every speed is both smooth AND easy to ride. (If you’re new to gaited mules and this sounds intimidating, let me assure you, nothing can be further from the truth!  NO riding experience is more empowering for a novice than riding a well-trained, responsive and KIND gaited trail mule.  And when they’re hell-bent on impressing you and making you happy?  Well, it’s magic- you’ve just gotta try it!)

Klondike’s gait spread is the kind of power glide ride that many riders prefer - given his choice, he will never break into a canter.  If you’re asking for speed, he’d prefer to give you running walk or rack!  That’s how he’s wired!  But once you’re done going fast, he’s done, too. He’ll settle right back down into a slower gait without staying fired up.  He’s also content to stop and stand still, even if his buddies are running off.

If this sounds like the trail partner and pet you’ve been waiting for, you might want to act sooner rather than later… someone is going to ride off into the sunset with this guy before too long!  His ability to handle the heavier riders, timid novice beginners, and general laidback, sweet babysitter personality make him a good candidate to be someone’s Prince Charming!
